Triathlon Coaching FAQs – Answered by a Professional Triathlete
This FAQ explains online triathlon coaching in the UK in plain terms: how communication works; how plans fit around work and family; what tech is used (power, HR, GPS, training platforms); prices and commitment options; how progress and race prep are tracked; the coach’s qualifications and experience. It also covers remote technique sessions (clinics, bricks, swim video analysis), equipment and pool access, and how injury, illness and flexible scheduling are handled—so you can decide if online coaching suits your goals, life and budget.

This is completely down to you. We start by talking to you and understanding your weekly availability to train. We aim to integrate your plan into your day to day lifestyle to have a good balance in order for you to enjoy your training and allow you to have more headspace and time to do the things you enjoy whilst still achieving your goals within triathlon.

No. Although I could easily make a cheaper set plan or a package with reduced services this does not align with our ethos (the 12 week plan option)
Without the ability to constantly check in with our athletes, the training we provide is completely fluid and allows us to navigate the ups and downs of life with ease, avoiding injuries etc.
Everyones life is unique with work/life commitments. We cater personally to this and create a plan that works best for you.

You will have a premium account which enables you to move sessions around. Feel free to move sessions to suit your week, following the rules in the information above.

Yes! It doesn't matter if you have never done any endurance ever, or you're looking to qualify for a world championship. I have been at both ends of the spectrum and can help whatever your situation.
-
Not at all. Whatever the magazines tell you, you don't need a power meter/fancy bike to start!
HR is a really good measure to start with, watch or chest/arm strap. All of these tools can be very useful but only in certain situations and they're definitely not a must.
-
There is no black and white answer here but it truly is a case of the longer the better. Endurance performance is about patience and consistency over a long time.

Online triathlon coaching excels when tailored plans, clear communication and consistent feedback are provided. It fits training around work and family while giving access to expert guidance beyond local options. Remote coaches use GPS, power meters and swim metrics to track progress, tweak workouts and deliver structured periodisation. This makes fitness, technique and race strategy improvements measurable and predictable. Success hinges on athlete commitment, timely communication and the coach’s ability to adapt sessions to the athlete’s environment — with regular check-ins, video analysis and honest accountability.

Most sprint triathletes train between 4 and 7 hours per week, depending on experience, goals, and available time. Beginners usually start at the lower end, while more experienced athletes may train closer to 6–7 hours with higher structure and intensity.
Typical weekly breakdown:
Swim: 1–2 hours
Bike: 2–3 hours
Run: 1–2 hours
Strength/recovery: optional
